Ted Kalinin Memorial Bursary

Sep 9 2002: Ted Kalinin was the last of our club?s charter members when he passed away last year after 38 years as a Lion. This bursary for students at Glenala High was made possible by the generosity of Ted?s son Lloyd. The bursary is awarded to students to help offset their educational expenses in grades 11 and 12.

This week we have also managed to train Lion John in how to cook on a BBQ, and even though he managed to set fire to it a couple of times, and burn the knobs off, I am sure with a little more practise he will be an excellent chef. (There?s plenty of opportunities to further your experience at our regular Harvey Norman BBQs John)

Well I've been pretty slack in updating the website recently, but the Ted Kalinin bursary is still an ongoing project, and John hasn't burnt the knobs off any BBQs recently, the club is still ticking along quite well. At our meeting last night we welcomed on a visit our Miss Personality entrant from last year, Kirsty who told a potential entrant for this year, Emily, just how much she gained from the experience. Hopefully Emily was sold on the idea. We also had a visit from our District Christmas Cake chairmen, Bob Goldsworthy who gave a lot of background information on how the cakes are made, and why they are such a great product.
