Activities

Our activities are based around our objects, the following shows how we have fulfilled those objects in recent years.

TO CREATE and foster a spirit of understanding among the peoples of the world.

  • Used spectacles have been collected throughout the year for distribution to needy countries.
  • The Moggill-Mt Crosby Lions were financially supported to help a West Timorese lady have facial surgery and we continued our child sponsorship through Plan.
  • We attended the welcome dinner for LCIF Chairman IPIP Mahendra Amarasuriya.
  • We remain the only club in our District to be a 100% Contributing Member Club of the Lions Clubs International Foundation.

TO PROMOTE the principles of good government and good citizenship.

  • Members in recent years have been involved on committees for the South-West region Crimestoppers, the Oxley Creek Environment Group and Oxley Creek Catchment Association.

TO FUND and otherwise service the civic, cultural, social and moral welfare of the community.

  • The Club raised and donated $6000 towards the Victorian Bushfire and North Queensland Flood Appeal, and catered for the opening of Haughton Park and ran a 'thank you' BBQ on behalf of Theiss for Corinda residents affected by the duplication of the train line.
  • Many other donations are made to various organisations averaging around $10,000 a year in recent years.

TO ASSIST financially, culturally, socially and morally the handicapped, disadvantaged and infirm of the community both directly and also indirectly.

  • The Love & Care project has been well supported for a number of years with money, goods and labour.
  • The Leukaemia Foundation and Lions Youth Emergency Accommodation Centre were both supported with specific BBQs, and we participated in the Multiple Sclerosis Society's Moonwalk.
  • We held a street stall to raise funds for medical research and a Trivia Night to raise funds for Zoe's Place.

TO UNITE the clubs in the bonds of friendship, good fellowship and mutual understanding.

  • We usually have busy years for club visitations, starting with our representation at the changeover dinners other clubs in our zone, and visitations from other clubs at our own and then various charter night or charter anniversaries or other special functions. Did I mention the District Changeover ? no ? well we attend that too.
  • Who can forget our 'Talk Like a Pirate' night?
  • Three members went on the Spinifex Safari, visiting many of our far western clubs.

TO PROVIDE a forum for the open discussion of all matters of public interest; provided, however, that partisan politics and sectarian religion shall not be debated by club members.

  • One of the highlights of our year is the Lions NAB Youth of the Year competition. We have been involved with this since its inception and really look forward to hearing the students give their speeches. Last year we also ran the Zone final.
  • Speakers at our meetings included presentations on behalf of the Oxley Creek Catchment Association, Zoe's Place, SIDS & Kids and The Smith Family.

TO ENCOURAGE service-minded people to serve their community without personal financial reward and to encourage efficiency and promote high ethical standards in commerce, industry, professions, public works and private endeavours.

  • Club members regularly attend the incoming officers' seminars, at both club and district levels, and various leadership and membership seminars.
  • We are currenly a happy group of sixteen. More are always welcome, please come and visit us
